People have often asked me: is there a formula I can learn for TruHappiness?

My response:

  1. Learn to kindly tolerate Yourself while striving to be the best You.

When You understand Yourself and make thoughtful decisions based upon the best available data, You can decide that You gave it your best You under those circumstances.  By deciding to be kind to Yourself, even if things turned out in an unexpected or undesirable way, You’ve begun to treat Yourself the way You would like others to treat You.  Ironic though it sounds, the only way to develop the ability to truly tolerate others is to begin by learning to tolerate Yourself.

  1. Discover those things that make You smile and then be, do and have them.

This requires You to know Your own preferences and be willing to seek them out, ask for them and ultimately to have what You want in life. For most of us, having close relationships that we engage with frequently makes us smile. Similarly, having a sense of the meaning of Your life, taking “me” time and expressing Your gratitude will generate smiles for You and those who surround You.

  2. See the everyday miracles in Your world and focus on them.

Often we take for granted the remarkable food, clothing and shelter we have in the world.  We expect that our cars will start, our children will cherish our advice and our bodies will carry us everywhere we want to go.  What if these were also seen by You as “everyday miracles?”  How could Your life be better if You allowed Yourself to be amazed by these events?
  1. Be grateful for everything that appears – yes, everything can be useful, if You only know how to make it so.

The science is remarkably clear about the benefits of living Your life with gratitude.  You will be not only happier but also healthier.  You feel more connected and loving because You feel appreciative for all You’ve been given in this lifetime.  You will have more true contentment and attract more to be grateful for!

  2. Forgive Yourself and others since carrying around old pains hurts the one who’s carrying them.

Forgiveness is widely misunderstood as Forgetting.  Our experiences can be seen as life lessons.  If we can see everything that happens as serving to educate us, we can take away value from all of life.  Instead of feeling badly for what’s come before or finding distance from someone who’s hurt You, You can “go high.”  If it’s appropriate for You, You can detach from a past that can no longer be changed.  Oddly enough, it’s not the one who may have done us a wrong. but the non-forgiver who winds up carrying around the pain of that choice.

  3. Savor the joys You have in your life!

Appreciate the love, the richness of Your existence, the comfort of returning to Your warm home, the joy of opening a hand-made card from Your grandchild.  Whatever the joys in Your life, You can make them into icons on the screen of Your “mental devices” and then You can press on that icon and savor again the happiness You’ve created.

Once You’ve mastered these 6 steps, repeat them over and again and then, do more of all of these.  JOIN OUR TruHap COMMUNITY to share with us how using the formula has helped YOU to have had even more joy and satisfaction…
